The famous West End actress Sally Dexter has stepped into Whoopi Goldberg’s habit to take over Ms Goldberg’s original role of Mother Superior in the London musical Sister Act. Ms Goldberg’s limited appearance, which ended on 31 August, had been announced previously. Ms Dexter will continue in the role until the show closes in London on 30 October. She recently played Mrs Wilkinson in Billy Elliot, and she received an Olivier Award in 1987 for the most promising new theatre talent of the year for her performance in Dalliance. Her portrayal of Nancy in Sam Mendes’s 1994 revival of Oliver! brought her favourable reviews and an Olivier nomination.
